board member opportunies

Cascadia Wild is seeking two new board members, a Board Treasurer and an Outreach and Fundraising Chair.

Board Treasurer

The ideal candidate for Board Treasurer:
  •  is passionate about the natural world,
  •  believes in the importance of helping people understand their place in the interconnected ecosystems we inhabit,
  •  has experience in accounting, bookkeeping, nonprofit management, as a nonprofit treasurer, or ideally is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA),
  •  works well independently and as part of a team,
  •  can lead Cascadia Wild toward best financial practices that will help us make a greater impact for the natural world.

About Cascadia Wild
Cascadia Wild is dedicated to connecting all people with the natural world, combining modern ecology with ancient practices of living with the earth. We do this by teaching naturalist skills, creating meaningful interactions with local natural areas, and providing stewardship opportunities for serving the wildlife, forests, and land of the Pacific Northwest.

We offer programs in animal tracking, wild plant foraging, and wilderness survival. Our largest program is a volunteer-based wildlife survey project on Mt Hood, called the Wolverine Tracking Project, in which volunteers help survey for wolverine and other rare carnivores. It is our vision that through increasing people's understanding of their place in our interconnected ecosystems, people will be better able to act with care and respect for the natural world.

Treasurer Responsibilities and Expectations
Cascadia Wild is primarily volunteer-run and, as such, we are a working board. The Treasurer will play a critical role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and programs, along with other board members and volunteers.

The Treasurer’s primary duties are:
  •  Overseeing the development of the organization's financial policies and procedures,
  •  Completing bookkeeping in Quickbooks and reconciling cash on a quarterly basis,
  •  Approving quarterly contractor invoices,
  •  Filing tax forms, preparing quarterly budgets and other financial reports as needed,
  •  Keeping the board regularly informed of key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health,
  •  Ensuring compliance with financial policies, laws, and regulations,
  •  Providing creative, strategic insights about how our small organization can leverage and steward its financial resources.

Board of Directors Responsibilities and Expectations
As part of the board of directors, the Treasurer will:
  • attend and participate in 4-6 annual board meetings,
  • help promote Cascadia Wild in the community,
  • participate in governing Cascadia Wild.

The board of directors as a whole is responsible for governing Cascadia Wild, through the oversight in the following areas:
  •  Planning: Setting and reviewing the organization’s mission and goals, and programs.
  •  Good Management: Ensuring that the organization’s programs are serving the public’s needs, and that all organizational, legal, and ethical requirements are met.
  •  Finances: Ensuring that the organization has the resources needed to operate and that resources are used appropriately.
  •  Human resources: Ensuring the organization has the people it needs to operate effectively and appropriate personnel policies are in place.

Time commitment
Expected time commitment is 7-10 hours per month. Board members serve for 2 years, and may be re-elected.

Qualifications
    • To support and be inspired by our vision and be willing to give time and energy to provide leadership for Cascadia Wild,
    • Previous experience in nonprofit administration, accounting, finance, or related areas,
    • Ability to fulfill the stated duties of Board Treasurer.
