Sunday, February 18, 2024, 9:30am-3:00pm The Pacific Northwest is home to the richest variety of conifer species in the country. Learn how to tell pines from larches, silver firs from Douglas-firs, and more. We will also cover how our native conifers sort themselves along an elevation/moisture gradient and other pertinent ecological facts to give you a wholistic understanding of these beautiful trees. Sunday, April 14, 2024, 1:00-3:30pm Sunday, May 12, 1:00-3:30pm Sunday, June 16, 1:00-3:30pm Learn to identify wild plants. In this series of 3 classes, we will explore Oaks Bottom to learn what plants are growing in this natural area. You will learn not only what traits to look for to identify each plant, but also dive deeper into botany terminology, edibility, plant growth habits and habitats, as well as the role of various plants in the restoration work that has been done in the park. As spring progresses, different plants and flowers will be visible, so each class will be a unique experience. This class is a partnership between Cascadia Wild and Portland Parks and Recreation.
