WINTER ECOLOGY AT MOUNT ST. HELENS: Saturday, February 23rd Offered through Mt St Helens Institute Winter offers an insight into the forest that is often overlooked in the summer. Animal tracks in snow provide clues about the presence of animals you might never otherwise know were there, as well as clues to their behavior, written in their trails. Conifers now appear ubiquitous without the showey foliage of summer. The snow itself has a complex story, forming a 3-dimensional environment distinct from the world above the surface. How are all these components - mammals, snow, vegetation - connected in the harsh winter environment? Join this guided snowshoe walk and increase your understanding of the winter forest. To register please visit the Mount St. Helens Institute page located here.
