2009 - 2010 Field Trips

Survey trips to Mt Hood take place mid-December thru March. Most trips are day long excursions that leave at 8 AM from the Cascadia Wild parking lot, and return in the evening. For the adventurous, snow camping trips are also available.

These fun trips are lead by our most experienced winter naturalists and trackers, so that you can experience the outdoors and further your understanding of nature in a safe, group environment.

To provide an optimal learning environment and fun group size, participants must reserve a space for each trip. You may go on as many trips as you wish or as space allows.

To register, you will need to be signed up for our forum. On the forum, you can register for trips and verify your trip dates, get more information about your trip, get to know your trip leaders and fellow participants, as well as share stories, pictures and questions.

More information about the trips and how to register will be given at the trainings.

Reservations for our survey trips will be available:

after Monday, December 7th.

2009-10 Trip dates:

Regular trips:
Dec 19, 20
Jan 8, 9, 16, 22, 23, 30
Feb 6, 13, 14, 27
March 6, 7, 20

Family trips
These trips are geared toward families with younger children. They will be on flat, easy terrain, and geared towards having fun!
Jan 16 and 23, Feb 13, March 6

Women's trip
This is a women only trip. Enjoy a fun tracking environment without any testosterone getting in the way! (Not that this is a problem on our other trips. All of our trip leaders are wonderful, welcoming people and almost half of our trip leaders are women.)
Jan 9

Advanced tracking
These trips are for people with intermediate tracking skills, experience on snowshoes, and in good physical condition. On these trips, you will travel far, usually off-trail, to get to those remote areas where more animals are likely to be found.
Jan 17, Feb 6, March 20

Snow camping
For the very adventurous! Being out in snowy woods at night is a very empowering experience that we highly recommend. Participants must provide their own gear and be in good physical condition.
Jan 16-18, Feb 6-7

Tilly Jane overnight
Not quite as hard-core as snow camping, this trip will spend the night at the Tilly Jane cabin, a rustic cabin equipped with wood stove, but a 2 ½ mile snowshoe in. Participants must provide their own gear.
March 6-7

On-call trips
The best time to track is the day after it snows. These are spontaneous trips that will go out whenever the conditions are good and trip leaders are available.
