SURVEY TRIPS
There are usually between 15 to 20 survey trips each winter. Most trips are day long excursions that leave at 8 AM from the Cascadia Wild parking lot, and return in the evening.

Regular Trips
These are designed for new and experienced trackers alike. They require moderate physical ability, and participants must be able to snowshoe up to 2 miles, through various terrain. Tracking basics will be reviewed. The curriculum is variable, depending on participant's skill level and needs. Children over 8 years old are welcome, however they must be accompanied by a responsible adult and must be able to meet the physical requirements.

Family Trips
These trips are designed for families with young children. Trips will be on flat, easy terrain, and geared towards having fun. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Women's Trips
Enjoy tracking in a supportive, women-only environment. Physical requirements are the same as for regular tracking trips.

Physically Challenging Trips
These trips are for people with intermediate tracking skills, experience on snowshoes, and in good physical condition. These trips will venture far and go off-trail, to get to those remote areas where more animals are likely to be found. Participants must be able to snowshoe up to 6 miles. Pre-requisite: at least one regular tracking trip.

Snow Camping
These trips are designed for people with experience in winter travel and in good physical condition. Participants must provide their own gear. Pre-requisite: at least one regular tracking trip.

Tilly Jane Overnight
These trips will spend the night at the Tilly Jane cabin, a rustic cabin equipped with wood stove, with a steep 3 mile snowshoe in. Participants must be in good physical condition and must provide their own gear.
Pre-requisite:
at least one regular tracking trip.

On-call Trips
The best time to track is the day after it snows. These trips happen on short notice, whenever the conditions are good and trip leaders are available.

WHAT TO BRING
Participants are responsible for bringing their own snowshoes, cold-weather clothing, and safety gear. Cotton clothing is not suitable for winter outdoor use! Cotton draws heat away from your body when it gets wet, and can actually make you colder than if you were wearing nothing. See our packing list (link) for recommendations on what to bring and wear.

We also expect all participants to carry the "10 essentials," safety gear that could save your life in an emergency. Cascadia Wild has bags with some of the “10 essentials” to loan out. Let us know the day of the trip if you need one.

Gear we have to loan:
Cascadia Wild has two pairs of adult snowshoes and two pairs of kid's snowshoes to lend out on a first-come first-serve basis. To reserve snowshoes, email us when you sign up for the trip.

Cascadia Wild has various cold-weather clothing to loan out. If you need to borrow clothing, see us before the trip, to be sure we have what you need.

CARPOOLS
In an effort to reduce our impact on the environment, we encourage participants to carpool to the mountain. Carpools leave from our office, at 1912 NE Killingsworth or from the Gresham City Hall Park and Ride..

If you can offer a ride, it will be greatly appreciated! Please let your trip leader know, so they can pass that on to participants who need a ride. We haven't had to turn anyone away yet for lack of transportation. A big thank you to all our drivers!

If you need a ride, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have one. Contact your trip leader, and they will let you know if there are drivers available. Drivers are volunteering their time, fuel, and mileage on their vehicles. A contribution of $5 to the driver is encouraged.

Drivers will need tire chains, and must be comfortable driving in winter conditions.

THE DAY OF THE TRIP
Carpools leave from our office at 8 AM sharp. Please arrive early so that you have time to check out safety gear and load into vehicles. We aim to be back in Portland by 7 pm.
