Nature Awareness Project

An outdoor adventure, the Nature Awareness Project brings you, your students, families and community in to weave an invisible basket of dirt-time, treasure, seasons, mystery, mentoring, wandering, sensation, heroics, yarns, masterpieces and the modern magic of science to hold future generations of leaders, hand-holders and wisdom keepers in their quests of learning.

Being part of the Nature Awareness Project builds community, self-esteem and a greater understanding of the self as part of nature. Everyone learns to become native of place as they immerse themselves in adventure that combines ancient ecological wisdom with modern ecological teaching.

THROUGHOUT THE SEASONS

Teachers and students join Cascadia Wild …

Developing a Sense of Place
Explore the hidden treasures and learn the ancient stories of the Greater Portland Region and beyond. There’s no place like home.

Becoming Invisible
Practice the art of nature awareness and the routines of invisibility that bring the wild of nature to you.

Questioning and the Art of Tracking
Tell stories left by passing animals, and people, too. Who went before, where were they going, what were they doing, what were they thinking?

Following A Moveable Feast
Wander across the land without want or need when you know the plants. Aidless navigation in your mind and you’ll never be lost. Wherever you are, there you’ll be.

Storytelling
All things are related in the web of life, six degrees of separation, the butterfly effect, and so it goes on, all around us. You will become a master storyteller, weaving the art of metaphor and reality from the story that surrounds you.

Chillin’ with Wilderness Living
Surviving is living in luxury with what nature provides. Find the gifts of Shelter, Water, Fire and Food. Anywhere you go, you are home.

Listening to the birds
They are the voice of the forest, field and plain. Learn their secret language; with a little eaves-dropping, find out who is sneaking nearby and what’s happening in the neighborhood.
